I'm not sure where he got this from, but my oldest is insistent that Daddy is coming home this weekend. I have tried and tried to explain, but it's not sinking in. Call it a form of 8 year old denial, but there is no talking him out of believing that Daddy is appearing in 3 days.
So I'm now trying to come up with something that will help the kids keep track of time and when to expect Daddy, family, and other visitors. I was thinking about making a special calendar for each boy with photos of themselves with their Dad, and we can mark dates on there.
Any other thoughts? I know there are some very creative minds out there, and I love to hear your ideas.

Hi Amy. Here is my suggestion... It may be an oldie, but a goodie especially for kids. What about the paper rings linked together with the dates one them. Each day you take one off, then as a family write or draw a picture of something that happened that day. Place in a scrapbook or something-- that way your hubby can look through it when he returns. Just a thought. Praying for you all!
This is something I was going to do and still plan on doing LOL 6 months into the deployment, but hey we still have 9 months to go! LOL
Get a glass jar and put a nickle into the jar for everyday he's gone, then for every day that marks a week (for us that's Thursday) we add a quarter. Then when he's home for GOOD the kids will get to split the money when we go on leave.
The scrapbook idea is great too. You can even go to snapfish and make one.
I would have suggested the very same calendar that you discussed. I've used calendars for my daughter whenever she asks when something is, and I can't seem to make her see it.
I'm so glad you got your "extra" day on Monday. I'll pray for you this year.
