My kids went to a friend's house last week. Amazing. Playland and more for kids. Paradise for my boys. They did not want to leave as they were surrounded by new, totally amazing, and endless fun toys. I should also add that these toys were very expensive, and they are now the ones that my boys want for Christmas instead of their previous choices. How do you explain to kids that Santa just can't afford it!?!?!?

I look forward to the responses you get, Amy, because I'm asking the same thing. We live in a very affluent area where children are over-indulged to great extremes. Our girls see all this "stuff" and they want a piece of the action, too! We try hard to instill values in our children that focus on others, on relationships, and especially on God, but they're young and they're human, and all those beautiful toys are sooooo enticing...
I don't think you have to explain.J ust get them what they previously wanted or what you can afford. You have good kids being raised in a loving household. Come Christmas morning, they are going to love whatever is under the tree.
When they are older they will understand why they didn't get x, y, or z but it won't matter because they will have the memories of being with their family and having a good time.
