Grandfather Mountain

Dave and the boys minus a Chicken Mommy and Anna. I couldn't brave the hoards of people in their slippery soled flip flops. It was like a soon to be scene out of Faces of Death!
Grandfather Mtn. is located in NC in the Blue Ridge Parkway. It's the highest point in the Parkway so the view is great. It's also one of the "most rugged" places on the Parkway, and that brings me to my next point. If you plan to visit, please be prepared for hiking. I avoided going out to the "outlook" after seeing the majority of people carrying out drinks in one hand, a child in the other, and a cigarette in their mouth, ignoring the signs that stated "Very slippery and rugged. Please wear appropriate shoes". I could see myself holding Anna and tumbling down the mountain after someone in their high-heeled sandals had a little "slip".
I would also recommend that you do not visit during the holidays. We went over Labor Day and it was packed. Still, we had a great visit and a lot of fun.

Hiding out from the rain. The weather was nice and cool - our first time wearing our fleeces since our move!
There was also a nice "zoo" area which showed certain animals in a "natural habitat". The boys loved the bears. This is a really nice stop if you are visiting the Parkway.

Trying to get a family shot by the "Highest Point" monument. Not the best group shot!

the best part of the bears is taking packets of honey and dribbling the noney on the bears heads, then watching them lick each other clean.

My inlaws haven't wanted to go back there since for some reason...
